Oral Article on Assessment

This essay provides an insight on assessment. A good teacher must be able to organize his lessons well for proper teaching. He should clearly state the objectives of a specific lesson or the entire topic. A teacher must always relate the objectives and assessment. This is because at the end of every lesson students must achieve the set objectives by their teachers. Another important aspect is evaluation; this helps the teacher to find out whether his objectives were mastered by the students at the end of the course or lesson. He must provide students with instructional materials that will enable students to follow the right direction. Having objectives at the onset of the course is very significant.

The lesson plan should have behavioral objectives that comprise of comprise of three objectives that is conditions, performance, and criteria. A teacher must plan his objectives in a manner that allows students to answer questions providing relevant examples. He must outline specific objectives according to the content that is to be delivered. When planning lessons, he should be in a position to put into consideration the necessary skills in the tasks that are to be taught. A teacher must reflect on task analysis, which refers to breaking down of objectives into simpler components. Task analysis involves a three-task process that is determining the prerequisites skills, identifying component skills, plan how the components will be combined into the last skill. There is need for one to use backward planning. It involves providing broad objectives then breaking them down into behavioral objectives. It is vital for teachers to plan for the course by stating the long term, middle term, and short-term objectives. When designing these objectives, he should put into consideration task analysis. In addition, lesson plan and assessments are also significant.

When preparing objectives of the lesson, the teacher must use taxonomies of instructional goals. There are three reasons why an individual must write instructional objectives: it helps the teacher to plan, evaluate, and hypothesize. Evaluation is quite important because it provides feedback to students, parents, and teachers. It also provides information for accountability, certification, and selection, and assists students in putting in more effort. An individual can assess students using two types of evaluations: summative and formative. A table of specifications should be used in measuring if the stated objectives have been achieved.

I think this is a good topic and more relevant for teachers. I was so impressed with the idea in the two articles because it gives a clear picture on what a good teacher is expected to do in order to deliver the content in an appropriate manner. I liked the way a teacher is supposed to plan for his lesson and how evaluation is supposed to be carried out in order to achieve the set objectives. The article has a close relationship with what I read in the text. They all describe how a teacher can evaluate his students for instance, those in campuses and distance education students. The ideas that I can apply in classroom are planning for a lesson and how to assess my students. This article provides an insight on how I am supposed to plan for the content and the right channels to follow when evaluating students. I will apply these ideas because I want my lessons to be wonderful and students must attain the set objectives.
