Free Essay on Career Objectives
As I have stated in my other essays, it is of particular importance for me to earn an MBA in International Business, such as the program South Carolina offers. Since very early in my life, I have been attracted to an international atmosphere, particularly in business. In an atmosphere such as this, you constantly encounter new challenges and new people everyday, which is very appealing to me.
My earlier work experience is mostly in the retail/wholesale area, but a little over four years ago, I had the opportunity to get into the sales department of the largest telecommunication company of Ecuador. For several reasons, I went up several positions and ended up as the Corporate Sales Manager, the company’s youngest ever. I found this career very demanding, but fulfilling as well. During my time as manager, I learned many useful things.
However, in order to be more successful I realized that I needed to learn many other skills. Around this time, I also got married and we had Nicole, my one-year-old daughter. She has given me even more motivation to succeed.
I left this highly paid position as manager to complete my last year in Business Administration. Nevertheless, this is not enough to be eligible for a vice presidency, which is the second goal in my career. In order to achieve this I need to refine my managerial skills and an IMBA degree will help my career tremendously. I plan to take up a position in the US, for about four years after I receive my MBA. I hope that this position is in a company such as AT&T or MCI, in particular in their dealings with the South America market. If possible, I would like to eventually bring my family back here. Depending on the position I reach in this company, I may or may not come back to look for a higher position here in Ecuador.
At this point hopefully I will have achieved at least a vice-presidency and would then have to decide to go on to obtain a doctorate or not before leaving the company and opening my own. My long-term objective is to open a small telecommunication company in Ecuador and hopefully extend to several other countries around South America.
Depending on the market at that time I may try to collaborate with an American company to expand my small company and maybe be part of the board of directors of a medium sized company, such as Verizon. A company such as this could become particularly strong in the South American market, as Bell South has tried to do. Bell South has offices in most of the South American countries, though in none is it the leader. I, on the other hand, would like my company to be number one in all the countries of South America. This is my ultimate goal, which I hope I will at least come close to achieving.
